Jamaica has taken significant steps to modernize its intellectual property landscape. The Jamaican government
has implemented legislative and regulatory updates to strengthen IP protection and support innovation.

Key developments include:

Trademark Amendment Rules, 2022:
Reflecting Jamaica’s accession to the Madrid Protocol; protection of non-traditional trademarks
such as smells, colours, holograms, and sounds; expedited examination at an additional fee; and an
increase in official fees.
Patents and Designs Act, 2020:
Enables registration of patents at the international level as Jamaica has become a PCT member state.
These changes improve efficiency in application reviews and clarify requirements for patentability.
Copyright Enhancements:
New enforcement measures address digital infringement and strengthen the rights of content creators,
